Sheriff Jeffrey R. Brown
Jeffrey R. Brown, a lifelong Saratoga County resident, was elected sheriff in November 2025 and took office on January 1, 2026. Sheriff Brown began his career as a deputy sheriff for the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office in September 1998. In May 2005, he was promoted to the rank of investigator and assigned to the Criminal Investigations Unit where he also served as a crime scene specialist and crisis negotiator. In 2014, Sheriff Brown was promoted to the rank of lieutenant and took charge of the Criminal Investigations Unit. In this role he supervised the department’s investigators, commanded large incidents and investigations, and began instructing at the Zone Five Regional Law Enforcement Training Center. In April 2018, he was promoted to the rank of captain and continued his overall supervision of the Criminal Investigations Unit. Sheriff Brown was promoted by then-Sheriff Michael H. Zurlo to the rank of undersheriff in May 2023 where he served until he assumed office this year. During his time at the Sheriff’s Office, he has been involved in the investigation of numerous high-profile cases and has attended many advanced police investigation and leadership training classes.
