Civil Office

The Civil Office is a state-mandated service of the Sheriff’s Office. Its purpose and function is to serve and execute the various legal processes issued not only by and for the several non-criminal courts of the state and its subdivisions, but also for the legal community and the general public. Departmental policies and procedures are consistent with New York state and court case law. These policies are designed and developed to ensure the accurate, expeditious, and judicious service and execution of all matters relating to civil process.

Hours

The office is open Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (8:00 AM to 4:00 PM in July and August). and is closed weekends and legal holidays.

Copy Fees

All fees must be paid in advance

*A copy fee will be charged if the correct number of copies are not provided.

$5 for Warrants of Eviction.

$15 for All Other Documents.

Requesting Documents

All fees and mileage are payable in advance. You must send the proper type and quantity of process as indicated, with the correct fees and mileage, with a letter of instruction in order for the papers to be processed. Omissions, errors, illegibility, untimeliness, etc., will prevent your papers from being docketed with our office.

Full and complete addresses including zip codes are required. Acceptable forms of payment include cash, attorney check or money order/cashier’s check. Please note that personal checks are not accepted for judgment payments or otherwise. Checks should be made payable to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office.

Please note: Evictions do not begin in the Civil Office. Please contact an attorney, Legal Aid or the city, town or village court covering the jurisdiction for your property for further instruction on how to start the eviction process.

VEHICLE LEVIES:

If you want a vehicle levied upon, you will need a copy of the Vehicle Title Record obtained from the NYS Dept. of Motor Vehicles, Albany, NY. This will provide proof of ownership and show any outstanding liens, towing and other expenses will also be required in advance for a vehicle levy, this may increase if there are special circumstances.

** Any request for levy on personal property of a debtor must be accompanied by proof of the debtor’s interest in the property.

** Note: A Minimum Fee Deposit in the amount of $850.00 will be required for personal property executions. A Minimum Fee Deposit in the amount of $1500.00 will be required for real property executions.

POUNDAGE RATES

Poundage of 5% will be taken from all payments collected

Records Office

The Records Office of the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for both road patrol records and pistol permit transactions.

Requests for Motor Vehicle Accident Reports

The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office has partnered with BuyCrash.com to accommodate civilian accident report requests. Accident reports can also be purchased at the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Records Office for a fee of $10. Please call ahead to make sure the report is completed prior to coming into the office.
